The servo on my 73 sprint has failed again two years after having a repair kit fitted.
I've been recommended to have the unit properly reconditioned, but I can't really afford to have the car off the road for that long.
So what I was planning was to either just buy one that's already reconditioned and swallow the exchange costs, or buy a second hand one and another repair kit, have the one on the car repaired for now, and have the spare reconditioned by someone with a good reputation for reconditioning stuff.
Problems are that I can't find a second hand one and the only reconditioned ones I can see are from a firm in Lincoln that I don't much fancy buying reconditioned stuff from (again).
So, does anybody know of a supplier of reconed units with a good reputation for their reconditioned items or have a spare servo worth reconditioning?

The 16v Slant 4 engine is more fun than the 3.5 V8, because you mostly drive it on the upslope of the torque curve.

Re: Reconditioned/reconditionable early Sprint servo wanted
Actually, no, they're not:
UKC1253 was used on all single line systems, and also on tandem line systems up to VA26900. From VA26901 however it changed to AEU1304 which was also used on 1850's from WK85001.
They are however in very short supply. I have it on very good authority that the Mk3 Escort XR3/XR3i used a very similar servo that is a straight swap for the Sprint one, but they are also now becoming uncommon.
The folk who sleeve the cylinders for us are currently experimenting to see if Stag units can be altered to fit the Sprint as they are still serviceable whereas the Sprint internals are unique and obsolete.

Interesting. The guy who's recomending reconditioning is a Mexico man. So he probebly has Mk 3 xr3-i contacts. So thanks.

Hmmm.......
If they are going down this road I would suggest they look at Sherpa/LDV units.......xvivalve wrote:The folk who sleeve the cylinders for us are currently experimenting to see if Stag units can be altered to fit the Sprint as they are still serviceable whereas the Sprint internals are unique and obsolete.
the stud fixing onto the pedal box is a slightly bigger PCD (and the studs are M8) but that can be overcome.

Re: Reconditioned/reconditionable early Sprint servo wanted
Mikey is quite correct, the only difference is in the studs, the servo to bulkhead studs are also metric (8mm) on the later one.
I have just (yesterday) removed a late (1981) servo from the Carledo because I have become aware recently of a slight hissing from it when the brakes were applied. Unable to find a suitable Sprint replacement I have fitted an 1850 one donated by Alun which works fine and with no appreciable difference in braking effort (by me on the pedal)
So I have the Sprint one which is not rotten but does need fixing. I'll let you have it for postage cost so long as, when you've finished your job, I can have your old one, just in case I ever need one to exchange!
