Sprint clutch slave cylinder

#1 Post by Aleco »

Hi,
I'm looking to order a clutch slave cylinder from the the club but wondered what the difference was between the brass and steel pistoned version - other than the obvious! Does the brass one last longer? Does it give a smoother operation?

For info : I did buy one from a well known stockist in the fens and it is pants. Poorly finished with no machined mating face where it mounts on the holding bracket. It looks like a part that has been made to fit from another application.

Thanks in advance

Without knowing the story behind the options offered, I can only guess that the brass piston is less likely to corrode and stick in the bore?

I will only use an OE style girling one.

Some Land Rover ones are genuine Girling too but may require a different union on the pipe.

Unless the car has been standing for ages and bits have seized I have almost always managed to recover one with a seal kit.

Cheers for the advice. I think my cylinder is a bit too far gone for me to rescue without some more specialist tools. It looks pretty corroded down the bore and I'm not sure how I'd get the piston out
