Ebay find.

#1 Post by mahony »

I came across this ebay ad a couple of weeks ago and had a punt http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TRIUMPH-DOLOM ... true&rt=nc
when they arrived I was surprised to find the Su's where genuine ST hs8's with the correct tags Fzx1050 and no discernible wear in the spindles , the cam looks to be a fast road or rally cam ( I can only find a extra tag on the cam which I cannot read ), I'm not sure if the cylinder head has been worked on ( will check later ) , the manifold has one of the thermostat bolts tapped out to a bigger size which is not to much of a problem, looking at the cam it has a chunk out of it at the cam sprocket end but the two securing bolts can still be used but I'm not sure if it can be used with such a big chunk out of it, check the pics out below :)

You may find it has balancing problems with that much missing, but of greater concern would be if the lobes will polish out or not?

Irrespective, a bargain for the carbs alone though in my opinion.

Thank's Alun, the surface of one of the lobes was ok with just a finger nail dragged over it but it will need a proper polish of the lobes, as you say with such a big chunk I'm not sure it can be used, not sure if I'm gonna use the carbs on my own car I might just refurb them and put them back on Ebay :)

I would take the carbs off you if you fancied parting with them?

PM me if interested :)

I would think that cam could be welded, this part is not heat treated, but the damged area should be smoothed out prior to welding, then machined.
