During the restoration of my Sprint I rebuild my brake master cylinder and used new SS brake hoses as the system had not been used for 3 years.
Yesterday I filled the reservoir with fresh brake fluid and started bleeding the system. However nothing happened, the brake fluid stayed at the same level and no fluid came out of the calliper bleeding nipple.
I could feel a faint puff of air coming from the seal of the brake servo non-return valve when depressing the pedal.
Is it the seal that is at fault or is the piston inside the master cylinder refusing to move and thus forcing air past the non-return valve seal ?
I just don't feel like taking the master cylinder apart again.
I had a similar thing happen to me. I think having the system full of air means the piston just compresses air and doesn't push any fluid down the lines. I think I just pumped like an idiot until it got started, but a pressure bleeding rig should work better.

are you using the 2 person method of one person pumping the pedal then holding the pedal down while you crack the nipple open and then close it?
I had this problem in the past, and the guys in the air-con firm next to me pumped the fluid from the nipple end of the system into the reservoir best peddle ever, prehaps some one could expand on the method?
