Diff play

#1 Post by AlanH »

To cut a long story short I decided to check for play in my propshaft. With the wheels on the ground and gearbox in neutral (auto box) I tried to turn the diff flange. It turned about 30 deg.

Decided to try again after a few days driving and it hardly turned at all.

This seems strange and I'm not sure what to try next.

Here are the things to worry about with a diff....

Does it leak?

Does it whine?

Does it clonk when going forwards to backwards?

Does it clonk or rumble rhythmically when driving along?

If the answer to those questions is no you have nothing to worry about.
