Glovebox light.

#1 Post by 80Sprint »

I assume my Sprint should have one as it has a switch but no wire to it but I can't see a light. There is a hole at the top left but the support arm goes in to this. Is that normal, seems like a bodge and an afterthought once BL realised the arm would hit the roof of the glovebox.

Where should the light be and how should it be wired with the switch ?

Mike

I have added a light to my glove box, positive feed from the time clock and earthed via the switch. I have used the existing rectangular hole to house the light unit http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vauxhall-Vetr ... SwHjNWA8Nk and my glove box fascia support arm does not foul the lens - its the plastic one not the metal one.

Paul, have you considered using an LED bulb. You can get them in warm white so you can get all the advantages of LED with the original look.

And I always thought my car was missing the light, looks to be a common omission.

As far as I can make out the switch was not fitted to switch a light, although there seems to be a position to fit one, but merely to act as a spring to open the glove box. It is, I suspect, a cheap and effective spring mechanism used by other car manufacturers to do the same function.

Mine has a switch, but no light or evidence that there ever was one. British engineering at its best, along with the strengthener running under the speaker holes in the rear parcel shelf ...

I've had dozens of Sprints pass through my hands and none of them have had a light, just the switch. Except my Track Sprint but that is an after market jobby.

According to Ted, the light is not listed in any Dolly or Tolly parts catalogue, though he did manage to locate one that is a direct fit for the hole. From memory it was from an Ital
