So I remember seeing a number of different method for mounting a sprint engine on a stand to give you access to mount the crankshaft seals and flywheel.
If you use one of the engine mounts on the side does this stress the block?
If you have a particular way of doing it can you post a picture.
I'm trying to figure out the best way of doing it.

James
have a look at Jerons way of mounting a engine to engine stand - special brackets had to be manufactured.

Thanks Paul, I was thinking of fabricating one of those.
Re: Sprint engine stand Mounting
I mounted from the engine mount holes the last time too. Make sure to extend the mounting point to the middle of the engine stands pivot, this makes it very stable and quite easy to rotate (for a chunk of pin iron

What I'm going to do is design something, build it then post the design on here, there don't seem to be any around so hopefully this will help.
Just saving up for my new Mig welder at the moment, one of these...

Looks like a nice MIG! I'd be tempted myself if I was in the market, but my 30+ year old Murex Tradesmig 140 just keeps on truckin'

Re: Sprint engine stand Mounting
I did all the work on my engine with it mounted off the engine backplate and I was worried that it was putting a lot of strain on the four long 5/16 bolts that pass through the stand universal adaptor plate and the engine back plate itself.
Let me explain what I am doing here. This is a scrap 1850 block which I was given years ago which I am stripping down. The pistons have seized in the bore. I have mounted this block to prove that the bracket (and stand) work effectively.
The block is sitting at about its centre so it spins around the axis of the stand relatively easily. I have utilized the four mounting points of the existing engine mounts which carry the engine when in use so I presume they have been designed and sized to support the engine adequately.
The bracket has been fabricated from bits of scrap and is possibly a little heavier than necessary. The engine as you can see, sits in very close to the engine stand upright. You would not want to bring it in any closer.
It is a much better arrangement than the mounting method I used shown in the first photo.

So later when I saw Jereon’s picture on Mad Mart’s Project XJX (Pimento Sprint) referred to by Paul above, I decided that if I was to do any further work on either an 1850 or Sprint engine I would construct something similar too. I fabricated something only last week to that shown by Jeroen.
This is where I get slightly embarrassed for the condition of the block now sitting on the stand does not match the cleanliness of the items which James is laying out in the various photos in his restoration. His restoration is of a standard that makes me think I should tear my car apart and start all over again! Let me explain what I am doing here. Re: Sprint engine stand Mounting
That's perfect, thanks Robert, exactly what I was thinking of doing.
So as soon as I get my new MIG I'll do a step by step.
