1500 clutch type?
I've got a 1500 tc but am unsure what clutch it has. I've got a three piece set with ten splines sat on the shelf but is there any way to know what clutch I'll need at the forthcoming engine swap time? Is the gearbox number going to help ascertain What spline clutch plate etc I'll need.
Re: 1500 clutch type?
What diameter is the friction plate you have Marko? 10 spline maybe a sprint set if its 210mm ish.
This link is for dolly 1.3 and 1.5 with 20 spline

Re: 1500 clutch type?
Didn't the earlier 3 selector rail gearboxes have the 10 spline input shafts?
Re: 1500 clutch type?
Maybe they did but I dont know about them much. Maybe the fork hole has a gap to look in there and see the splines to check?
ps sprint plate is 215mm diameter

You need to know which gearbox you have (3 rail or single rail).

Re: 1500 clutch type?
Isn't the 1500 TC the same as the spitfire? If you know the engine/chassis number and go on rimmerbros, it may tell you. After a clutch myself and considering idling thatToledo Man wrote:You need to know which gearbox you have (3 rail or single rail).

Re: 1500 clutch type?
The way to tell sible from 3 rail is teh position of reverse. And I can't remember which way round they are (but somebody should know)
3 rail is 10 spline, single rail 21 spline.
1300 6 1/2" clutch, 1500 7 1/4" (from memory)
You can get plates to mix and match etc etc.

Re: 1500 clutch type?
A 1500 TC could well have a 3 rail box so would be a 10 spline early clutch, likely the same as an early 1850.
The clue is reverse next to 1st and a deep tunnel tray back edge if you have one.

Re: 1500 clutch type?
reverse is top right and the car was, as I understand, made from good bits of other cars so could be anything 1500ish.
I might have a three piece clutch for sale at the end of the week which is 10 spline and a 165mm friction plate. from memory I got it from someone on this forum. watch this space...

Later cars had the single rail gearbox from about 1975 onwards. The above advice is the best way to determine which type of gearbox is actually fitted.
