As long as the antifreeze is glycol based, it should be fine. Aim for 30-40% of antifreeze in your coolant when making it up. This is the stuff that I use.

Just don't use the pink stuff (known as OAT iirc) it eats the solder in the brass heater rads on our cars, or something like that!

As Dave said, anything ethylene glycol based is OK. 25-33% mixture is fine.

I use Comma Coldmaster ready mix - you could say as long as its colour of the antifreeze is Blue you will be fine.

We keep hearing tosh about anti freeze concentration....

Sorry but its just plain factually and scientifically incorrect.

25% Bluecol will protect down to several degrees of frost. Anything more is a waste unless you live somewhere like Aboyne in Aberdeenshire!

If you suggest a channel islands resident can have a 40% concentration safely while he sits in traffic on the way to the beach or whizzes it down to the south of France in summer, the result could easilly be a warped head after the consequent overheating because of the impaired thermal capacity of his cooling system.

Best to stick to the same brand so you keep the various corrosion inhibitors compatible. Bluecol has been my a/f of choice
for as long as I can remember...

Oddly I used a Mobil branded HOAT red stuff for years with no ill effects. Will probably go waterless coolant when I eventually fill it. Expensive but probably the best solution.

I have NOT suggested 40% Jonners, only a max of 33% which is what Bluecol themselves have recommended since I were a lad!

And you don't need to be in Scotland to get cold, I have seen -18 here in Shropshire on more than one occaision, and been snowed in too! You London folk have it soft. (I know, I was born one)

:? Probably....?
No, it is definitely the best solution (no pun intended).

Takes something less than seven years to make a saving on antifreeze replacements alone......

My car shop tells me that blue anti freeze has an operating life of 3 years and red has a life of 5 years.

I am currently using Evans coolant in the sprint but it is expensive.

33% is maxed out for really cold areas. You would be safe down to about -10 with only 25%.

40% is ridiculous and will lower the heat capacity.

Wasn't you I was correcting Steve...:-)
