I have been searching for parts for my new 1300 dolomite. The part number a rimmers for the slave cylinder is gsy105, it is almost identical to the midget one gsy107 (sad that I remember the number after nearly ten years!). The big difference is in price at a cost of £20 less. The only differences I can spot are the angle of the mounting notches - shouldn't be an issue as I will take it off to bleed anyway so inclination of bleed nipple won't cause problems and the pics on rimmer seem to show a pressed steel looking end to the 105 but I can't remember seeing that on mine when I was groping around yesterday. I think the midget one is still 7/8 bore so that wouldn't affect anything either.
Has anyone ever looked into this? I am lucky in that there is an mg specialist a few miles away so,
I may just whip mine off and take it along for a look.

Re: Alternative clutch slave cylinder
OHV clutch slaves are a bit of a minefield.
What works is the girling OE piston type with OE seals. Recent imports have a very poor seal design and last 5 minutes. These are
what Rimmers and a few others have been peddling, with predictable results.
If yours is not worn, just get a new seal kit.

Re: Alternative clutch slave cylinder
The spitfire/herald slave will work perfectly.
There is one issue though, and that is the size of the unions. The dolomites (for some unfathomable reason) have a larger union and pipe, at least that is what I have found.
As to quality, it varies!

Re: Alternative clutch slave cylinder
Thanks guys, as I have a receipt for a new slave from not more than two years ago (at a cost of £51) my guess is that it's an aftermarket one, but I will strip it and have a look what's going on.
Okay.......
If I had an ohv Dolomite,
I would be looking at alternatives from the kit car world or,
if a concentric slave conversion (for a Spitfire) is available I'd use that.
Ian.

Re: Alternative clutch slave cylinder
After a lot of searching of old catalogues and spec sheets I have gone for a new dolomite slave from ANG. Sadly my existing one was replaced only two years ago with reckons for a new report slave. As the car has not been used for a year the last owner got little use for his £50. If anyone fancies a cheaper alternative them the midget one will work perfectly well but the pipe must be changed as well. It's not cost effective if the pipe is in good condition, but would save about £25 if the pipe needs replacing as well. I am still looking at concentric a as mentioned above and also have wondered machining done an MGB one as they are produced in vast numbers and I happen to have an old one sat in my shed I could play with on a rainy afternoon.
Okay.......
You can get an adapter from the kit car suppliers so no need to change the pipe.
If you tell me the sizes I'll post a link....

Re: Alternative clutch slave cylinder
This week mine has been fitted with one for a TR4.
I had obtained a new old stock Girling master at the NEC and this looked great on the outside. Had a plastic bung in the port hole and was very clean and boxed. The car has been in a restorers having a few bits done that now health issues make difficult for me, and as part of this it and a reconditioned Girling slave were fitted this week. It was found that the bore was ok at the rod end where the piston and red grease had been but at the bottom where the plastic bung was it was rusted to a very very naughty word. A new one going on to a TR4 being restored fitted perfectly, just needed the rod changing. Then it was bled and after a few pumps air bubbles were coming up the line from the reconditioned slave. Re-bled 6 times including a power bleed but the same kept happening so that was removed and one for a 1500 Midget was fitted and worked straight away. Clutch is a bit heavier than it was but works perfectly. The Midget slave's only difference is that once its in the bleed and line in ports are horizontally side by side instead of vertical. On inspection it looked as though the new hydraulic line from Rimmers was not sealing tight at the thread of the reconditioned one. The thread size was ok but the threads in the slave were worn so the air was sucking in past them on the out stroke, but not leaking on the in stroke.
If daft things can go wrong at the moment, it is with this car. Lesson is be vary careful of new old stock however good it looks.
