Has anyone fitted a 123 USB tuneable dizzy to a Sprint? (road car).

I have ordered one, and am sorting out the Magnecor leads with the Club, however there is not
much information on the net regarding the specs for a 44D4 (arrives next week)ish).

Most people I have spoken to advise setup on a rolling road, not too keen looking at some of
the customer comments on various garages, would rather trust a club member and travel, if
anyone can help.

I'm going down the Megajolt (with MAP) route and have setup the unit with these values that I got from Michael Jeffreys TR7 Sprint pages.

I took a look at the 123 but they didn't list a Sprint version, obviously didn't look hard enough!

I contacted a couple of suppliers and they said it would fit a 44D4, the one I went for is,

which is a type G with side entry cap.

There is a new one out this coming week, which is a bluetooth version, to let you work
on your phone as opposed to a pc.

That one you can return. It will not fit as any 123. It is a Dutch product and there is one company here what modifies sprint dizzy s and others and does fit the 123 electronics in it. That company is not the manufacturer and their conversions are not that good as the original product. A few years ago I did make some adapters to fit a std 123 tune in a slant but no more left. The option is to buy a ready to fit modified one or buy a 123 and make it fit your own dizzy what I am doing right now in various cars. Still the original look and cap but modern electronics.

The adapter you can see in the motorsport section at " start with a new project". Maybe I can have a few made again if more want some.

On Thursday I emailed 123 from their homepage

The place I ordered is on their list as an approved distributor/seller, and I emailed
them what I want it to replace, the exact words from the email,

Do you sell a 123 electronic distributor to replace a Lucas 44d4.
(Triumph Dolomite Sprint, 1980)

I tried looking for your post in motorsport but could not find it or in the archives,

I have a 123 Tune in POE, I sent a new Dizzy to Hebels and they returned a knackered old dizzy, that said, they did convert mine when I pointed this out to them and sent me back all the new internals.

I've not had much of a play as she's a standard Sprint with a standard curve. So far it's been fit and forget.

I'd have another converted but make sure they do convert the dizzy I send them.

It's a bit difficult to place a link from the forum into the forum with my phone but here is screen shot. It is difficult to reach them. It started as a small company but they went crazy of the world wide phone calls and emails they now receive. Friends of mine are a dealer and I thought they have a different email and phone number for dealers now.

The company that modifies is Hebels British sports cars in Holland. They buy 123 ignitions and modify. They do dolomite ones but never seen one in real. I believe on the forum are a view who have one. The only thing I know that the ones I did see broken were the modified ones and not the original ones in their original 123 housings. They do not turn as nice and smooth. Maybe they do not line up ok or something.

I'd seen http://www.123ignition-conversions.com Mahesh, but wasn't sure about the idea as it seemed they buy a 123 distributor, take out the electronics and stick it in your own distributor case, something by the sound of it Jeroen confirms. This was back when I did like the idea of a bit more of an original look, and I reckon that if you want to pop up the bonnet and not tell that it's not as it left the factory but with far better reliability and performance the 123 conversion is still the best option.

Personally I've since decided I'm going to modernise instead, Megajolt, electric cooling fan, expansion bottle with low water alarm and uprated electrics protection!

Generally my car is standard apart from,

the stereo,
electric aerial,
SU air filters,
Alternator,
Magnecor HT leads,
bigger battery,
MS3 coil,
mortaility tester,
green hoses, ( )
LED bulbs,
fuel filter,
Club alloy carb mounts,
Club alloy spark plug tubes,

and that's it for the moment,

All for a bit of modernisation which makes life easier but doesn't change the feel.

Well if your cash is still in your wallet, consider going with a Megajolt and dump that distributor. Go to Trigger Wheels and get a kit fro £340'ish, only downside is having to get a trigger wheel welded to the bottom pulley.
