Hi All

I know some of you guys have ultrasonc cleaners and Ive just looked at what's available on ebay, so am now confused about what
size I need to go for and how much to pay....

I guess like most of us its the idea of seeing previously manky looking bits coming out like new that appeals.
Up to now Ive done a pretty good job with an old ice cream tub and some diet coke....

So its it worth it?

I found it useful only because I hate wearing gloves for any kind of work (driving with driving gloves excluded).

Mine is the electronic control one, as per spec below,

Basically 3.2l capacity, but will not fully immerse a complete SUHS6 body, should have gone for larger.

Would probably get better results with proper cleaning fluid, but I just use plain water and a couple of drops
of washing up liquid. (should change to vinegar or lemon juice) don't use white spirit, (headache all day).

Bottom line, is it worth it ?, 70/30 in favour for/from me.

I made my own with a plastic jar and a electric sander my carbs came out really well connsidering

Unless you can afford a large industrial unit no. I have come to the opinion that an ultrasonic cleaner is for lazy people who think all they need to do is put a dirty part into a tank and it'll come out pristine with no work. I put a lot of work into my carbs to get them looking that good.

I have a James ULTRA 8050, it's ok but there's no substitute for soaking and scrubbing with a toothbrush (cheap electric one works well). You're welcome to borrow it if you like, the cleaner not the toothbrush.

Put them in the dishwasher and then you don't have any extra work. Make sure you use the extra shiny tablets.

Very true, be careful with aluminium parts and the salt content of the tablets though!

I get into trouble for just bring car bits into the kitchen.

Partially agree, but for me it allows time to do other work while the cleaner preps the bits ready, if they're not perfect, close enough makes a difference.

It's like having an assistant who keeps quiet and does as told.

Jonners, if you want to borrow one let me know, it's not in constant use, borrow James's James as well for a comparison, as both are a different construction.

For a complete comparison I could eat pizza out off a cardboard box for one week.

Just had a look at the James....looks cool but wonder if its cool at the expense of functional...

Mine is not a particular make, but has come down in price a bit.
I would still recommend the size up.

Has anyone tried diet coke in an an ultrasonic cleaner?
Not literally, but as a solvent
