Top Gear, did anyone…..?

Top Gear,
did anyone watch the relaunch?


I have managed to watch only about half before getting bored…but will watch the rest later.
My initial thought is that it would be better to use the old format as a basis from which to develop the programme
rather than simply replicate what went on before?





Mind you I didn't like the previous version much .

Top Gear? It's still in neutral, and the engine isn't running either!
It didn't get into any gear, I can honestly say I've seen better footage on ITV's "You've Been Framed" - so I doubt if I shall follow the series, the rapport between the presenters was so false it was embarassing - go back to your day jobs people!
On another thought, if this is the same production team & crew that worked with Clarkson, Hammond & May then the three of them deserve a medal for providing us with some incredible entertainment over the years, even though Clarkson is a bit of a prat at times!

It was a bit boring, I didn't laugh once. The features were dull,the 2 challenges were pointless, the guests were awful:
Guest 1: Look at me I have a La Ferrari, and I have the key to a new one, I am great aren't I?
Guest 2: What is a car I don't know if I owned one or not?
Dump Evans and leave Leblanc to carry on without him, can't be any worse, at least he doesn't shout all the time.
The best bit was seeing Evans getting rained on.

I haven't had chance to watch it just yet (is it available on iPlayer?). I'd rather Evans present it like TFI Friday than trying to imitate Clarkson & Co.

I might change my mind once I've seen it...

I already have Amazon prime so I will be watching the 3 Stooges in their new incarnation, the new Top Gear was painful to watch and Chris Evans is hopeless, even if he is a committed (or should be) petrolhead! I actually like Clarkson, he may be arrogant and borderline rascist/sexist/whateverist but in between his more famous outbursts he does talk a lot of sense, try reading the books!

No, it was embarrassing to say the least......it was the One Show with cars.

Would like to see Jonners thoughts on this as he thought that show with my next wife, Jodie Kidd was bad....well, this one is ten times worse!!

I was born in the 50s and grew up watching "Till death us do part" and "Love thy neighbour" both of which are now considered utterly unspeakable, along with the Benny Hill Show (which even I cringe at now) I have to say that I don't have a lot of interest in political correctness myself.

I rather think that Clarkson and co had had enough of the Beeb and decided to go out with a bang. Or the beeb got fed up with Clarkson thinking he was indispensable, tried to prove him wrong and FAILED - MISERABLY!

I have 6 words for the producers of Top Gear, unashamedly poached from another working class hero:-

I watched it on video last night and was disappointed that it was the same old thing, but with a much worse presenter. Evans was dreadful. Jumping about like a puppet with its strings crossed and yelling at the top of his voice. I don't particularly like him on the radio, and here he was much worse. As others have said Matt LB wasn't bad. Calm and witty. They can't keep on with the "American bemused by strange British practices" theme for long.

What a shame they stuck to the old formula with pointless scenes chasing each other round trying to shoot each other with lasers. How is that supposed to appeal to people with a genuine interest in cars? It was amusing that Sabine managed to get a fighter pilot to up-chuck in a car. But I don't think I will be watching any more.

The main problem with Jodie is she is too tall and has a poor choice of friends, and did a very poor classic car series with someone
who should have done a lot better. Quentin has really gone down hill in almost all his recent work.

I'm enjoying Mike on Quest dealing his way up to a supercar atm.

Haven't had time to watch TG yet....not sure I will after all the adverse comments. Can it really be that bad? Curiosity will doubtless get the better of me.

Edit: Well it did last night... I managed about 1/3rd of the repeat after question time. I thought Evans was loud and shrill. He needs a serious sound check. He was also far to much about his own personality and not enough about the show or its ethos - cars!
Matt Leblanc otoh was excellent. Professional - knowledgeable and understated. His Nomad bit was a great watch. For a first outing on a new show it was a very creditable performance.
The guests on the sofa were awful. Ramsey is just totally annoying and the other guy just vacuous, probably down to Ramsey. The LaFerrari and oh I'm getting another one as well that IVE been invited to sign up for (big I am) and loook here's the key. Vomit inducing plain and simple. The driving course was though a bit more interesting, if the sole intent seems to be to cake a new Mini in mud, rather than show any driving ability.

Still got to watch the rest of it....it has to get better surely...?

Evans is someone that you either love or hate. For me I'd rip my own arm off just to have something to throw at the telly when he is on.

I had to force myself to watch the second half of the pilot. Evans was slated on twitter and facebook and even ranted on twitter about how great the viewing figures where and the show was, as if trying to convince himself.

Id be surprised if the show tops 3 million viewers for future episodes.

I agree Matt Leblanc came across as capable and could be a good shout for it to be successful alongside a different co-presenter
