My Flasher on my Flat dash 1500 has gone at Motofest today! Was working then stopped but indicators, lights etc are still ok so not fuse related. How do you locate it on a flat dash? Undid the screws underneath but no give in it to move it forward, and if indicators still working is there 2 flashers on these can't find anything on flat dash in Haynes.

Operate the hazard warning switch a few times as the contacts in it may have become dirty and can cause a problem with the indicator lights operation. Have you checked that the lights flash when the hazard indicator switch is operated?

There are two flusher units one for the hazard warning indication and the other for the turn indication. I would expect them to be clipped on the back of the flat dash. On a 1500 the indicator flasher unit is on the lower part of the dash and can be reached by hand.

Remember to undo the speedo cable!!

Undo to remove flasher or to ease dash forward? Undid all screws today from underneath but there was no play / movement in dash!

Hmm, flat dash - not sure, I've only done curved dash....Sorry.

It is worth going along with Richard's suggestion because the live feed for the indicators runs through the hazard switch. The flasher for the flat dash cars should be hanging down among the wiring so take a look and you should find it without too much trouble.

I am having probs. with slow indicators on my 1300 and after cleaning earths again have decided to go for an electronic unit BUT. Like you I am having trouble getting the old unit out. Read that to change the unit you have to remove the whole facia but advise on here is that it should come out from its clip by reaching up and pulling. The hazard unit on mine is the lower one and that comes out ok but I cant shift the indicator unit. It has been suggested to me that it is probably rusted into the clip and the wires will not pull off the connectors either.

Only suggestion given to me left is to cut the wires and fit new connectors, this came from an auto electrician who knows these cars but frankly I am reluctant to do that.

Would it be worth removing the speedo to try to get better access to it?

Its in a big square clip and has green wires coming off it. Ive never seen one so badly rusted it wont just pull out.
Taking the whole dash out is a waste of time. Just find the think and prise the clips open and away you go.

There are 2 flashers...the larger one is for the hazards. As has been said a dirty contact on the hazard push pull can blitz the lot, but always
works after a few in and out pulls.

Other fail point is a bad earth connection in the front sidelight units. Sure cause of a slow to non existant flash.

I've cleaned up the front bullet connectors, have to every year, but the right hand one slows to a stop almost when braking and if the radios on will stop. Strangely ok with lights on until braking. I have cleaned the bullets, bare wire ends and the holder mechanically with a bremel and contact cleaner, and for good measure the rear lights too. This is why after Toledo man says his problems were sorted by an electronic unit I want to do mine.

I have tried prising the unit out but I cant get my hand in a position to get enough grip on it to shift it or prise the clip open because of its location between the gauges and screen heater switch. Last owner also fitted an accessory socket giving even less room.

I haven't looked again yet today as car is not at home it lives at my sons at present, but had a feel behind dash and bottom rectangular flasher wouldn't come out and couldn't feel another one at all! Indicators work fine, lights are fine, have tried pulling the switch on and off a lot of times and didn't correct it, were working when leaving the show then just stopped! Will probably get another look tomorrow.

On mine the bottom one is the hazard unit and it wasn't easy to prise out at first, but came eventually. I also couldn't find the flasher unit but once the lower one is out I can feel and touch it sited above the other. I felt the rear of the screen heater switch and sandwiched between that and the gauge found what I can only assume is the flasher unit with two wires connected to it, but it ain't budging. This second unit feels smaller than the hazard flasher as expected.

The lower one in yours could well be the hazard unit you are looking for.

I know mines a curved sprint dash, but the clips should be the same.

Try taking out the non speedo round gauge. Couple of knurled nuts on prongs...then you should get at offending stuck clip.

That's what I am looking at next, and what I meant when I earlier asked about taking the speedo out.

Last night at the West Yorks meeting had a look at Toledo Mans rear light wiring because I was suspicious of mine. Mine is missing an earth lead on the off side rear. When I was checking it earlier to clean the earths I found three black wires connected to the nearside and none on the offside, which is the one that slows to a stop. Two of these wires come out of the wiring loom and one from the nearside fog light. On the offside there are two wires that look to have been disconnected at some time and taped together. One is the fog light earth and the other comes out of the loom. The one from the loom is connected to the light unit on Dave's (his doesn't have fogs) so I now suspect this may not be helping my cause.

Can someone please confirm my theory before I connect these wires to the light unit.
