Standard Triumph Marque Day

#1 Post by markas »

Just read the email about the NEC show & seen the link to the Marque Day on July 17th. Not too far from Norfolk so am thinking of going along. Will there be a club area or is it just 'turn up on the day'?
Sadly can't volunteer for the NEC show as am definitely not a born organiser!! Disorganiser, maybe :)

I haven't been to a single marque car show since VW Action 2004, so as Lincoln is not far from Huntingdon I'm tempted to visit the Triumph Standard Marque day, but having never been is it all plummy(!) folk in Mayflowers and Flying 10s sneering at 'modern' Triumphs or is it a mixed affair? Will there is a TDC presence? Open questions rather than directed at the op!

Edit: Lincoln is definitely not from Huntingdon!

From experience a 'mixed affair' as you describe it with an undercurrent of warm welcome and a host of fine machinery to covet!

It is being held as part of the TR register weekend. CT should be there (they are organising an autosolo taster on the Friday, alongside the TR trackday) and the TSSC, Stags etc should all attend, they usually do. Should be a good day, we will be there in our spit, (trackday/autosolo Friday, doing something else Saturday, TR/STMD Sunday)

I went to it last year, when it was at Shelsey Walsh which is quite near me. Not plummy or toffee nosed at all and a wide range of cars. No one looked down their nose at my modified Toledo, so I guess anything with a Triumph badge is good! Norfolk is a bit far for me though (and my only neice is getting married that day)

Well in that case I think I might well pay a visit on the Sunday then, as long as I haven't broken my freshly repaired Dolly in the meantime. And if there's any sniffy TR owners up there I can show them what a real performance Triumph does with my 8.4 seconds 0-60 time!

Fair enough. there's always another year to visit, but not another nieces' wedding day Steve!

That reminds me (freshly repaired Dolly bit, not Steves nieces wedding!) need to find the time to update my 'resto' post.

Am still planning to attend if the weather stays fine, as is forecast.
Can't see any opening time on the TR Register website so presume we can turn up any time within reason. It's about 2 hours away from me so intend to arrive mid-late morning.

Same for me to be honest, I'll be occupying the club stand with space for more vehicles, plus an opportunity to go in the arena.

Care to join me on the club stand?

Bruce,
Many thanks for organising the club stand. What a great day and superb range of Triumphs.
Just got home, will upload some photos later.
