As the sprint axle I fitted a while ago had a "clunk" on hard acceleration, I ordered some new tie rod bushes as the originals looked poor. One of the rods sheared when undoing, luckily I had a pair on the old axle still.
Anyway when it came to refitting, I have bee unable to get the proper dished washer on. Is there a technique?
In the meantime I have fitted the (not a lot) smaller washers that were on the old axle to squash the new bushes up, and I am hoping that in a week or 2 they will have compressed enough to get the dished washers on.
Which leads me to the next question, the dished washers. Dish into the bushes, or away from them?
Both the axles had the dish out, which looks wrong to me. But what do I know!

I had the same problem, fortunately I was doing it on a ramp. I got my 20 year old 14st stepson to swing off the propshaft, that put enough squash on the inner bush to get the outer one and all the washers in place and still get the nut on a couple of threads. But I guess if you are lying on the floor, a scissor jack betwixt prop and tunnel would have the same effect. Do one at a time, obviously.
Dish towards the bush Is how i've always fitted mine.

I used a small ratchet strap front the front of the tie bar to the axle plate. This compressed the front bush plenty enough to get the second bush. Washer and nut on.

The factory did revise the fitment of the bushes and dished washers
I've always followed this.

Interesting! I have therefore fitted the bushes and the "inner" dished washer the wrong way round! Not too much of an issue, as I will be crawling back under the car next weekend.
Pleased it cured my noisy rear though!

And the towbar is now fitted, so I can now take the trailer full of tat to the tip, and the missus can re-fill it....

Interesting to note that the nylon washer should be deleted when fitting a Polybush. I must remove them from mine before I fit them.
