ET phone home 2...wheel arches too small!!

#1 Post by shaunroche »

A common phenomenon I know, but having a few problems with the wheels I’ve just had refurbed and the tyres I’ve fitted (Minilite copies).

It looks like the offset on the wheel is too great and with a set of 185/60/13’s on, the wheel protrudes past the wheel arches.

I’ve done a few cursory measurements but didn’t work out the ET size as it never occurred to me at the time!

I’m confused by this as I know the owner I bought the wheels off definitely had them fitted to a Dolomite - they were Kleber tyres and they were not as square as the Nankangs and had a more rounded edge to them.

The tyres I’ve fitted are Nankang NS-2R’s -

I remember seeing this post of Mart’s and wonder did anything come of it?

So, what’s the verdict?

Bin ‘em off and get some new one’s that I know will fit?

I had some metal machined off the inside of my wheels, but I still had to removed the lip from the rear arches completely & take about 2mm off the front arches.

Re: ET phone home 2...wheel arches too small!! ET35?

Phew, that would be a bit drastic at this stage!

So what, am I looking at ET35 to enable a 185/60/13 to fit without any problems then?

These fit fine on standard Sprint wheels so use the same offset as they have.

Also ok with one inch lowered...

Note from Admin: sadly Jon passed away in February 2018 but his humour and wealth of knowledge will be fondly remembered by all. RIP Jonners.

The Sprint wheels are 5.5" wide aren't they, but will 6J with an ET35 offset fit do we know?
