K&N filter inside a standard air filter box?

For everything to do with Dolomites, Toledos, FWD cars and Dolomite-based kitcars.

K&N filter inside a standard air filter box?

#1 Post by marko »

Has anyone put a performance air filter inside of a 1500tc filter box? I was toying with the chrome ones but I want it to look standard and I don't want to put the two chromed pancake filters where they're not seen. My thoughts were for an oval shaped filter that would sit inside. Have you any suggestions, I don't mind which of the top makes the filter is.

Many thanks, Mark.

You'd need two round ones, similar to the OE, rather than a single oval; the space between the filters and the case on a 1500/1850 OE air box acts as a plenum chamber, with air then entering the sides of the filters and exiting through their axes. If you put a single oval filter in then it would severely restrict air supply.

I use a flat panel inside a sprint airbox on my Sprint. Moss do something similar for Midgets which may work.

Dimensions of the K&N elements are:
1.75" H
4.5" id
5.9" od
Part # E-3180
They don't fit inside a standard 1850 airbox, they're too deep, and the battery is pretty close.......
With a 1500 I think there might be more room for modification, with the battery on the other side? Probably need to reset the mixture too...
