Thick gaskets

#1 Post by AlanH »

Went to see this yesterday
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Triumph-Dolom ... 7675.l2557
The guy has really gone to town and has made a valiant effort but it has beaten him.
He has had the head skimmed and the valves look to be poking out a bit, I thought that it was possible to get A thick head gasket for the 1850 but can't find one. Are they avaiable?

The item is marked as sold but he thinks that it could well come back on the market. I'm thinking of having a go but I will need more storage (there are mountains of bits). At this price it's for nothing.

There's a guy in Auckland who will make gaskets to any spec as long as he is given a template. If there is someone here, then there MUST be someone in the UK! However, you may not need one as it depends on how much the head has been skimmed by, what compression ratio the engine would have with a standard gasket, whether the valves and pistons touch etc. You could even have the cutouts in the piston tops made deeper if the valves touch but compression is okay and you are happy using high octane fuel. The height of a new Sprint head is on the forum somewhere, I'm sure someone would be able to measure an 1850, then you could work out how much it has been skimmed by, and what the effect on compression is.

I wouldn't let that put you off buying the car if you see it as a bargain.
