Rear Tie Bar Bushes

#1 Post by Ministrone »

I'm looking to replace he rear tie bar bushes of my Dolly Sprint with poly bushes.
The axle end are already poly bushed so I only need the chassis end.

Does anyone know if the correct ones I need are 30B at the link below?
http://www.polybush.co.uk/shop/triumph/ ... r=2%7C1975

They are just described as rear upper link bushes

Yes 30b will be the chassis end, as it shows 2 halves joined by a tube to make a bush. I have these but not fitted yet (ive done the axle end)

I'd go for the Super Flex bushes. Chris Witor gives a discount on these to TDC members and I think the Club also stocks some of the Super Flex range. The only other bushes I'd recommend are the orange Polybush as mentioned above. Jigsaw racing sells these.

I believe that pic was taken on our stand at the NEC a few years ago. That looks like Carl Shakespeare's Sprint.

The 'Polybushes' are the ones that Jigsaw sell. I got a set from them for my track Sprint many years ago. Seem to be ok still.
Sprintless for the first time in 35+ years. :boggle2: ... Still Sprintless.

Engines, Gearboxes, Overdrives etc. rebuilt. PM me.

Only the superflex ones.

The others you will never forget how you made them to fit.

If you fit them to both ends of the rear tie rods there is a greater chance of you shearing off the threaded part at the rear of the tie rod as you attempt to tighten them sufficiently to insert the 'R' clip.

If undertaking this task, I would have at least one spare tie rod to hand....just in case.

Alun, I never had that problem with the Polybush. I had to compress the tie bar bushes at the axle end with the nut before I could get it started on the thread with all the washers in place.

I suspect you might be referring to harder bushes which might not compress as easily. Not all polyurethane bushes are created equal and I'm led to believe that the Super Flex and orange Polybush aren't much harder than the original rubber so the tie rod shouldn't shear. There's more chance of the bracket on the axle breaking off (yes, I've been there...).

I've ordered a pair of super flex bushes.
Because my axle end bushes are already fitted the should have been compressed long enough not to cause me any trouble. Thanks for the advice.

Wasn't there something about the trailing arms flexing and eventually breaking if the bushes were too hard? I remember a thread about that a while back.

That was Tony (MIG Wielder). He always brings the offending item to the shows. It shouldn't be really an issue with Super Flex because they're not much harder than rubber. My 1850 is still on the original rubber on the rear suspension so I've no experiences to offer yet.

Dave! I think the point about my broken trailing arms were that they were both on my daily driver Sprint and both had standard rubber bushes. This goes back to 2008.

viewtopic.php?f=4&t=8741&p=82659&hilit= ... arm#p82659

I hadn't realised that my display board of " Bits I've broken on my Dolomites" had ever been noticed.
O.K. I'll bring it along to TDCIR next week if you'd like to have a further look.
No trouble with this problem on my current 1850 daily so far with standard rubber.
Tony.
