Are Sprint rear brakes bigger than the 1300/1500 brakes? Might consider an upgrade if they are

Oh yes, it came from the bigger Triumph 2000 and was in fact so big that they had to put a pressure limiting valve in to stop lock up.

To be precise, the Sprint's back brakes were used first on Fords (Cortina mark 2 1600GT and E, 3 litre Capris.)
The linings are interchangeable with the T2000 mark 2 range but the shoes (springs and wheel cylinders) are not.

No, the fronts are the same across the range.

It would need side by side comparison, but you may be able to fit Sprint back plates, shoes and drums to a smaller axle, but I'd personally fit the balance valve to the floor pan also.

Be aware, Sprint shoes currently in limited supply, Ford folk like Burton sell them for Cortina and Capri, but at £75 a set.

So, the Ford drum brake back plates are similar, but everything else is different? Therefore, it would be cheaper and easier to fit Capri rear brakes than sprint rear brakes

You can fit larger rear brakes but then you have to reduce the brake pressure to the rear to have the same brake power you already had with the std drums. You have to upgrade the front.

And there speaks the common sense, stop messing around with the rears and change the fronts if you want to stop quicker, it's simple science!

As to Sprint shoes being in short supply, seem to be no problem with availability that I can tell, recently bought a set from Rimmer for £45 but also listed on plenty of other sites?

I didn't say they were in short supply, I said they were of limited supply, ie only available from certain retailers.

It is good to see Rimmers have restocked as not long ago they were 'not currently available'. £45 a set is still somewhat steep in my opinion though and hopefully once I get enough core sets to make re lining viable, we'll be able to do better than that...

What did you do with your old ones Raf?

I've kept them to hand over, hopefully at TDCIR. That's if I can get an MOT sorted out this week as I got a failure on a couple of minor points at the most inopportune time possible. Just ineffective handbrake on one side, split steering rack gaiter, a split ball joint boot and a full beam unit, but I've no time this week to source and replace.

I have a set of sprint rear shoes which were at one time riveted, I have removed the rivets in the hope that I could have them relined but I can not find anyone to do it. My 42 Jeep also has riveted brake shoes and I exchange them but my supplier is not willing to tell me where he sends them.

Thanks Malcolm, they are three miles away from me, I shall go and see them.

The folk I've been talking to so far aren't interested in one offs at all, in fact their first offering was a batch of 50 sets as a minimum order, but they do clean and refinish the metal work and box them up as part of the service so they look 'as new' when returned, but their unit price was intimated as being significantly more than Villiers!

Argh!!!!! don't start em off on why the fronts do most of the work out will come the slide rules and the insurance worriers.
