Column bush plate

Im now putting my 1500tc back together after some welding work and the sealer around the column lower bush plate as all but dried up and turned to dust, so what a good replacement for the old sealer ?

Cannot beat a small bead of silicone sealent around the outer edge of the retension plate.

I would use old-style windscreen sealant, it never hardens. Available from all motor factors.

The original material is very similar to a product called Bostick.
