Hi Simon,
We have one as well, it doesn't work. The motor works, but the pump rotor is toast.
How did you get the lid off?
Paul.

...but only if I prime it first by sucking through a washer jet
Convenient for that shower on the M6!

I just spent the morning reconditioning 3 of the later type.
The rubber impeller needs to seal both sides to stop wet stuff wrecking the motor. They almost all dont, which means an annual clear
out and clean up come MoT time, which is a bind on later sprints with the stupid bracket that has the pump down the side.
They dont suck that well either.
Trico do a much better design that I seem to have one or 2 of from somewhere.

It looks like it washer pump season.
Mine has gone too, and in keeping with tradition. the top screw on the bracket no problem, the bottom one,
drill it and drill it some more.
I'm curious about these water/washer pump types, as mine is attached to the side on a bracket.
Yet my car is supposedly a 1980, but this was the earlier type of water pump (motor), however
the last Sprint which is at Attwell Motor Museum, also has the same, confused is the only word
coming to mind.

Slightly off topic.
The May73 Sprint Parts book , P 02-78, shows 2 screenwasher bottle / pumps
1 Trico type with square bottle and round pump mounted on centre of square lid.
2 Lucas type with large rectangular motor, looks a bit like the old voltage regulators, on round lid with the two Lucar terminals on the step of the moulding , oval bottle.
Has anyone seen the second type fitted to an early Sprint? I've seen them on 2.0 /2.5 but never a Dolly.
Thanks,
Len

I have the second type, I think they are known as 5SJ, I bought it for my sprint as the part book said it was one of 2 types fitted.
They cost silly money now, over £120 or more, I tried to sell mine on ebay and someone offered me £30, so i decided to keep it.
There is a company selling the Pirelli webbing that secures the bottle to the bracket, he is charging £12.50 and describes it as 'a rare item'. you can buy it for £5.50 a metre on Ebay.

Hi Malc,
I have a brand new one of the Lucas type still in it's box. I think I paid £30 for it at an autojumble somewhere about ten years ago, didn't realise they were daft prices now.
I have a suspicion that the one on the car is not absolutely correct but I'm hesitant to put the 5SJ on as I've never seen an early Sprint with one fitted.
Don't forget the £12 one normally comes with a single rivet!!!! Someone is having a laugh at that price.
Thanks,
Len
