Doe anybody know how to indetifiy a Borg Warner torque converter?
I have about 6 and need a sprint one to complete box swap, they all look the same but I am relaibly informed that the internals differ, so if I have to send one away for overhaul it needs to be the right one.
I can't find a number printed or stanmped anywhere.

Re: Torque Converter Indentification
According to my post-76 parts catalogue the torque converter for the 1850 & the Sprint are the same.
Hope this helps any.

Re: Torque Converter Indentification
Many thanks
The list of part numbers from JPAT Automotive quote four part numbers four the Dolomite range
1500 TC 113 30 05
1500/ 1850 110 30 36
sprint 017 code gearbox 113 30 33
Sprint 6071 code gearbox 113 30 77
I'm not sure how the internals are different, is it gearing or turbine blades etc/

Re: Torque Converter Indentification
Most likely is the stall speed will differ according to how much torque the engine produces. eg a 1500 with a stall speed of lets say 1800 rpm will 'flash' to a higher rpm when used on a sprint engine because of the higher torque available.

Re: Torque Converter Indentification
I went through this in some detail when converting one of my Sprints from manual to auto just over five years ago. There is a bit of the story here and Harvey's comments are as usual very helpful.
viewtopic.php?f=4&t=17506
Consensus was the torque converter itself was identical for 1850 and Sprint, there are probably differences in the automatic gearbox but no-one has clearly identified what they might be, although Harvey discusses the possibilities.
If is any help, mine has the entire setup from an 1850 behind a Sprint engine with a slightly tweaked cam, and I don't have a reputation for driving slowly yet I've never had any issues with this setup. In fact I find it pleasant to drive if you use the engine torque rather than making the 'box change down. Only change I made was fitting a transmission cooler which sits in front of the radiator and of course flushing and then using fresh fluid of the correct spec.
