Hello all. I am in the process of renovating the bodywork of a dodgem (what used to be called a bumper car before elf and safety).
The body is made of fibreglass. All the necessary filling has been done, and the existing gloss finish has been flatted back.
What I could do with please is some advice on what primer to use. Obviously not etch primer, as the fibreglass might not like the acid. I'm thinking of using plastic primer.
Before I go ahead though I thought I'd consult the experts.
Regards,
Richard
Primer for Fibreglass
Re: Primer for Fibreglass
What do you intend to paint it with as a top coat? I would try to use a primer from the same manufacturer. When I repainted my Elan bodyshell I used International yacht paint called Perfection, and I also used the Perfection primer. These are 2-pack epoxy paints which are extremely durable and flexible when hardened. They also have a very good gloss.

Re: Primer for Fibreglass
Thanks Mike.
Not fixed on top coat yet, but good advice about using same manufacturer.
So, epoxy primer?

Richard
