The starter on my sprint sometime makes a shrieking noise as if the bedix has started to spin before it has engaged, sometime is it ok and other times it make the noise if the engines coughs anf then disengaes the bendix.
Does this indicate solenoid issues?
I don't curently have a spacer fitted between the starter motor and the bellhousing but this would mean that the bendix is now 3mm closer to the starter ring gear.
many thanjks

Re: Noisy Starter on Sprint Auto
That used to be a very common problem with the 2000/2500 saloons back in the day and IIRC was cured by correct shimming of the starter motor. Sometimes they'd do it 3 or 4 times on the trot before the'd finally engage and turn over.
If the solenoid doesn't work for any reason the motor won't spin.
