Shipping Costs

#1 Post by davy67 »

Does anyone have any idea how much it would cost to ship my Sprint to Perth (Fremantle), Western Australia?
I am leaving the fire service and moving abroad but not decided whether to keep the Sprint, otherwise it will be going in the For Sale section!

Depends on whether you want it in a container (recommended) or roll on roll off. Then you need to add insurance, import duties etc at the other end too. The main thing is to find a reputable company to do all the donkey work for you. I've been looking to ship cars from the US East coast and that all in would be about £1200 so to ship to Aus would potentially be more expensive.

I've used Ship My Car https://www.shipmycar.co.uk/ to quote for importing but not sure if they can help with exporting, maybe give them a call or email. I know several people who've used them and they come recommended.

Suggest you also find out from WA authorities what specifications / hurdles you will need to meet to get the car registered and roadworthy. I suggest this as a friend took a Lotus Seven Series 4 across from NZ and he spent a very long time working on the car as even that had to pass some quite strict emission tests. Also when bringing a car into NZ it has to be structurally sound and the leeway on rust is just about zero. I suspect WA would be similar. Best to ask before you commit.

I can talk to you about this at length because I did this exact thing in 2003.

PM me?

From memory it was about GBP1000 in its own shipping container. Very happy with Company that did it but would have to rummage to confirm the Co name

Hi , I have been quoted £2695 from Ascope Shipping based in London, but as previously mentioned that price does not include various other costs. The fact that the car is still an unfinished restoration and requiring paint it may prove difficult to meet the standards.
I have a few people here who have shown an interest in taking on the remainder of the restoration but I have still to decide what I am going to do.

Mark, it is Perth I am moving to. Will be coming over initially for the month of July, then hopefully moving over before the end of this year once we start the paperwork.

I used this organization, Karman shipping :

http://www.carshipping.co.uk/

Will pm you David.

I'm sure it was around 1000 when I did it but plus other costs here in Australia. Those costs being a) related to import exercise b) inspection for roadworthiness c) licensing

The import costs are customs things such as paperwork and fumigation and there are also duties on imports based, from memory, on the age and value of the car (might only be value) and how long you've had it. I paid either nothing or very little for the latter and the customs figures weren't much.

A vehicle has to be "put over the pits" which is the equivalent of an MoT inspection. But note there are no MoTs so unless you get pulld up by the police or cease to have the car continuously licensed that's the end of it.

I had minor moans re the pit inspection - missing parcel shelf at the time would not prevent fuel or fire ingress (ha ha ha have you see the Dolomite flameproof parcel shelf), oil leak and had to have an immobilizer. Latter I got fitted. Oil leaks I wiped away around the corner before arriving

And licensing is what it is anywhere of course.

Welcome to the sunny side..although getting cooler now and July might be pretty wet so be prepared.

Just a link off Piston heads that might be useful.

Can always get a sprint here, but the Aus ones are all mimosa and others will be respray/reshell or personal imports.
One bonus of a WA car is no salt on the roads and a dry climate =little to no rust.
Cheers

These guys specialise in vehicle imports from UK to Aus for migrants...

I would say it would be worth importing the car - sprint values here are heading up and one that is not mimosa is going to be a plus as they are pretty much all Mimosa here bar a few exceptions.....

http://www.ironladyimports.com/

I had a mate use their Japanese import service a few years back and he recons they were great to deal with - but I have never used them.....

The guys name is Kristian he has been importing Japanese cars under the name iron Chef imports for years as a consultant, have a read on SAU - skylines australia forums, he has a lot of reviews on there i believe.....

And welcome to Australia :) I am in Adelaide myself....

So what do you reckon a good Sprint is worth in Australia?
