Can anyone recommend a suitable valve spring compressor for a Sprint engine? I need to start stripping down my cylinder head prior to machining so I'll need to remove the valves and springs and replace them at some point.
Hoping the valve guides are OK, could do without replacing them if possible.

I use one like this:

It has a reversible end for the spring retainers so 2 sizes. Works good for me

Re: Valve Spring Compressor
one that was used for the old ford cvh engine works, must be loads knocking about.
its very similar to the one above.

Re: Valve Spring Compressor
CVH didnt need much depth really. The inlets on the sprint are down the hole a fair way. The one i linked would certainly do both though

Re: Valve Spring Compressor
This is my spring comp; I've had for many years. I originally bought it for MGB / Mini but I have since modified it to do slant 4 heads. The dimensions are as set to do an 1850 which also has its valves well down inside the head like the Sprint. Note how the upper support arm has distorted upwards over the years.

Re: Valve Spring Compressor
There seem to be 2 sorts. Some with a locking type action and others similar to the one shown here which more resemble a G Clamp. I guess either would work fine, though I have to admit I'd prefer to use one out of the box rather than modify one. You can't really do the job without one so I guess it makes sense to buy the most suitable for the job, funds permitting.
