I have no idea but I do know that early 1500 boxes had a different scroll type oil seal on the input shaft which means a different input shaft
and bell housing insert.
The other difference would be around speedo drive gear maybe as 3.89 and 3.63 diffs were used with the 1500 box. The 1300 box is the same too and had a 4.11.
So maybe that helps explain the difference?
Oh and the other blindingly obvious variation is overdrive and non overdrive....
