A Shocking Question

#1 Post by bluetriumphsteve »

My rear shockers are bollocked on my 1850, I want to keep the car as standard as practically possible, however if spending more it worth while on say Spax, then why not. Are Rimmer Bros own brand shockers any good? Or can anyone tell me there experiences and say what they would recommend for a good quality shocker. The chances are I'll end up doing the fronts and rears and new springs all in one hit. I've no interesting in lowering or any of that

Cheers

The quality of spax is overrated and lasted 30.000km on my daily. If you want totally stock decent reasonable priced I would fit kyb. Never had those on a dolomite but fitted several on customer cars with succes.

Ive had good results with Munroes as a "standard" shock. I agree with Jeroen....spax is more a triumph or marketing than quality.

AVO's or GAZ are also good, but worth more than the car...

I fitted the bog-standard Rimmer's items to my 1850, along with the heavy duty standard ride height springs. They've been on the car for the last couple of years and are fine. I did find a NOS set at the NEC about a month after changing mine; would have gone for these if I hadn't already changed them

I agree with the comments about Spax. I bought a set when I had a Lotus Elan. Horrible things. Much too hard for the weight of the car. I wouldn't buy them again. I have Gaz on my MGB and they seem fine with lots of adjustment.
