I have been playing with my carbs and thought that I had set them up OK.
When I went out for a run I found that it started to hold back when accelerating reasonably hard.
Naturally I thought it was the carbs but the plugs looked a good colour and I seemed to have put everything back OK.
I did the normal thing and went checking contacts etc.
I am thinking that the problem may be with the coil or wiring it's working now but there is obviously something a bit loose.
Could a bad connection to the rev counter be the cause or is it most likely to be the coil? I have read here that rev counter faults can cause problems but that seems to be early ones
Reduced performance and erratic rev. counter
Re: Reduced performance and erratic rev. counter
What ignition do you have?
Any rev counter connected to coil neg can cause trouble. As it is on coil neg it can also be the other way round. When the points/module is bad the rev counter does show.
Easiest is to take off the white/grey wire of coil neg. Your rev counter is disconnected this way. If that doesn't solve the problem it is the ignition or coil.

Re: Reduced performance and erratic rev. counter
When the rev counter went jumpy on me in the olden days before electronic ignition it was always a sign the condensor
was on the way out.

Re: Reduced performance and erratic rev. counter
I've always attributed erratic rev counter behaviour to faulty coil, not often been wrong!
