Brake Broke - now I am broke!

Despite the car passing the rolling road MOT, for the past couple of years I've been suspicious about the brakes in emergency situations.
This is my latest attempt to cure this, I have a feeling this story will run and run...

The new bits (plastic clips are arriving this week from Robsport (numpty9 on eBay)) and this brings the total to £312:

And what I hope (but doubt) are the root cause:

Proof that an MOT isn't the safety thing to end all safety things, but I'd still rather have one!

Well, you were only getting about 50% contact with the old disc and pad set up!

The only way to go. And for 312gbp you dont have a new front panel, wings and a new radiator.

Would that brake rotor be an MOT fail, or just an advisory?

Advice on what to fail by the ministry varies somewhat. A few years ago those Rotors would have only got an advise, so long as the efficiencies and balance were within limits. Lately however the ministry position (and therefore testers opinion) has altered and even my classic friendly tester would fail them! HOWEVER he could only fail them if he can SEE them! IF, as I believe, that is the inner face, it is pretty well hidden, assuming the outer face looks OK, it could easily slip through the cracks!

But how many 'average' owners whose car becomes MOT exempt next year will bother to inspect their brakes properly?

How many indeed! AND even if the owner did inspect their car there will be that added temptation to "let it run for another month, then I'll get around to it and sort it" if there is no pending test due.
