Sprint Speedo

#1 Post by GrahamFountain »

Anybody know what options there are for the speedo for a 73 Spirint? Like the 1850, etc. And would anybody have one they'ed part with for a reasonable sum?

My cable's gone and left part of itself in the back of the head.

I'm gonna try and take it appart to push/pull through from the front - too hard to drill -, but I'm not hopeful of getting it back together and it working properly after.

The 16v Slant 4 engine is more fun than the 3.5 V8, because you mostly drive it on the upslope of the torque curve.

Factory 1977 TR7 Sprint FHC VVC 697S (Now all of, but still needs putting together)
B&Y 73 Dolomite Sprint UVB 274M (kids!)
1970 Maroon 13/60 Herald Convertable (wife's fun car).

There’s one ending soon on eBay for £20

Think I’ve got one in the loft somewhere too

Seen that and messaged about P&P. There's also a couple of 120 mph 1000 turn ones for £30. Will the front of mine fit that and read right, presupposing I can get the pointer on right?

Seller added P&P while I was wondering, so Ive bought it. It's not a match, looks like a pushbutton trip reset, but that's not a big issue.

All Triumph speedos are 1000TPM so the gearing will be OK. The correct instrument for an early Sprint will have the "easyread" font, marked in 10mph increments to 140mph, a remote trip zero cable fitting on the rear and probably clear, rather than green, illumination. Not sure I have one that early, but i'll have a look over the weekend.

That would be great, as the one I've bought is a later one with a push reset and scale to 130. But I would prefer the right one if possible.

It was my own damned fault - fitted a lights left on alarm (buzzer and two scotch-locks) behind the dash, and must have put the spedo cable back in wrong. It worked oddly for 200 yrds then stopped.
