Sprint engine mounts
Hello
I need some new engine mounts for my Sprint, the ones from Rimmers are basically dissolving after a very short period of time. Common story! I see Robsport, jagspares, mevspares and wins sell them at differing prices. .. has Anyone experience of purchasing from these suppliers?
Thanks

Re: Sprint engine mounts
Well I wouldn't hold your breath for them. Technically it can be done but would require a significant investment of spares fund to realise. I have not had a formal response from the committee but I think it's unlikely to happen.
Even higher quality rubber ones would command a significant investment but it might be an alternative.

Re: Sprint engine mounts
That's the best hope, as I would not be surprised if the current new crop all come from the same manufacturer no matter the retailer, when I was looking around for gearbox mounts that was certainly the case...
Current fleet: '75 Sprint, '73 1850, Daihatsu Fourtrak, Honda CG125, Yamaha Fazer 600, Shetland 570 (yes it's a boat!)
Past fleet: Triumph 2000, Lancia Beta Coupe, BL Mini Clubman, Austin Metro, Vauxhall Cavalier MK1 & MK2, Renault 18 D, Rover 216 GSI, Honda Accord (most expensive car purchase, hated, made out of magnetic metal as only car I've ever been crashed into...4 times), BMW 318, Golf GTi MK3 16v x 3

Re: Sprint engine mounts
The issue is that commercially the minimum order is 75 pairs (150 units). That's a lot of investment up front with no guarantee of sale and of course you have to store the things too. The retail price would be approx. double the cost of rubber ones. Trouble is that too many people either put up with the s##t product that's available currently or they're not willing to spend the extra wedge. There's no incentive for RB or any other supplier to address the quality either because of course when they fail in 2 years they can sell you another set.
I was hoping to find someone who could assist with a much smaller minimum order but the conversation didn't go anywhere unfortunately. If the minimum order could come down to 25-30 pairs that would make things easier. Anyone who's going to make something like this won't do it for free either, they'll want their profit.
I'll continue to make enquiries as if nothing else I'd quite like some decent mounts for my car, I don't particularly care if they're rubber or polyurethane!

Mark, send me the figures and I'll talk to Andy about it...
Re: Sprint engine mounts
Hopefully you guys can hash out a minimum qty and price.
An upfront payment in full to order, would ensure correct ordering, commitment, and viability of project.

Re: Sprint engine mounts
Thanks for the comments. I still have my old mounts somewhere as i was concerned the new ones may not last! I think they are slightly different iirc, one sits at a slight angle more than the other? I'm probably wrong! Happy to donate old ones if i can did them out, it was me who re ignited this topic after all

The mounts are identical. It's the brackets that make them handed.
Sprintless for the first time in 35+ years.
... Still Sprintless.

Re: Sprint engine mounts
I am going to defend those seeking value (OK tightwads). I am willing to spend extra money when I have a guarantee the part is better quality and will last. For my Rover 75 I bought the more expensive suspension arms, clutch parts and engine mount for that very reason. However I trusted the supplier and there was allot of positive feedback.SprintMWU773V wrote: ↑Wed Jan 31, 2018 1:58 pm The issue is that commercially the minimum order is 75 pairs (150 units). The problem I have found with classic cars parts is there is no link between price and quality. Paying more doesn't guarantee a better part, often it is the same part sold at a more expensive price. I will only pay more if I know the manufacturer and I know it comes from a good batch.
Alas that isn't information that easy to come by. So if I can guarantee that the engine mount really will last much long and work properly; I would pay double the price of the cost of the junk parts.

'TDC Approved' parts scheme anyone?! I know, I know, who would administer it, what about dispute resolution, liability insurance etc etc...cleverusername wrote: ↑Wed Jan 31, 2018 9:06 pmI am going to defend those seeking value (OK tightwads). Re: Sprint engine mounts
I've struck up another conversation with a well known parts supplier who may be able to help and has made similar items also and specialises in the 'low volume' quality repro market. This particular supplier would look to manufacture and take on the risk essentially, but the part would be commercially available potentially at a discount to club members. There would not be the facility for the club to profit directly from the sale of the product though.
Does anyone have any old core Sprint mounts that they have spare and wouldn't mind being liberated for the metal? Would also really need another one as a good example of a complete one. I sent my last 2 repros off never to be seen again!

Re: Sprint engine mounts
Hi all,
We were talking about this at our meeting last night.
Someone has said that the TR8 engine mtg from Moss europe will fit and are brilliant
The only difference is the nuts are a metric thread.......
Has anyone else heard this?
Cheers,
Tony.

Re: Sprint engine mounts
I'm either looking at the wrong engine mounts.... or they are not very similar.
