HU0980
Can anyone give me a specification for this bolt please?

HU=setscrew
09=3/8 UNF
80=? This has me confused, it should be the length spec, but they are only suppose to go to 49.
Of course the above is a best guess.

HU0980
Can anyone give me a specification for this bolt please?
Could it be 3/8” x 24 UNF Setscrew, which would be HU0908?

Alun, there was
THIS thread in the members only section in a similar vein. The answer to your question can be found in the Standard Triumph Hardware Catalogue which lists the specs for nuts, bolts, screws, etc. You can find it on my
BT Cloud

UNF??
Now that had me checking; this bolt is the Sprint exhaust manifold to head bolt and my '73 parts catalogue has the part number HU0980 but I was certain they should be UNC. Checking the '76 parts catalogue it gives a different part number of HB980... Did the thread size change with the second edition heads?
A 75 catalogue gives HB0980
Can't access your cloud for some reason Dave...?

They are UNC, both early and late, I just tested the bolts I have.
I have 5 x (3/8" x 4") bolts.

The links works on my work PC with Google Chrome and I'm not logged into my BT account. It doesn't work with IE9 on the same PC.

According to Dave's rather interesting PDF the HU prefix applies to a mixture of UNC/UNF set screws. Unfortunately the offending part number is not listed, with the HU series stopping at HU0972 3/8" UNC @ 2 3/4"
HB0980 on the other hand is listed as 3/8" UNC @ 3 3/4"

Yes, I agree with James but I went a different route.
HB980 = BH506321 which is NLA from Rimmers but is still kept by Moss and John Craddock the Land Rover parts guy.
And yes its a 3/8 UNC x 4 in Bolt. I imagine its a special as the unthreaded section is quite long to accommodate the thickness of the exhaust manifold.

Blogger me... BH506321 £4.42 incl VAT from lrdirect.com. That's an expensive bolt! vs moss website @ £2.23
Not original, but Namrick list both 3 1/2" and 4" in 3/8 UNC cap head HT screws.... not sure I'd go down that route though.
Or even nasty grabby seizing stainless?

You can get a 3/8 x 4" from Namrick £1.14 plus the VAT.
