Accelerator Pedal

#1 Post by ham204 »

My pedal moves sideways (apart from up and down) and I found the reason why - it was not fully bolted in place. I also found the reason for that - the two bolts are under the brake servo and unless you have multi jointed fingers, there is little chance of touching the bolts, let alone try and tighten them. The next step seems to be to remove or shift the servo out of the way so I can get a grip on the bolts.

Can the servo be shifted a couple of inches or do I have to remove it completely?

I agree it is very difficult to get at the two bolts that hold the accelerator pedal or at least the bottom one. I have not tried this but if you manage to take out the top bolt you might be able to hold the bottom one and the turn the bracket on the inside of the car to undo it. I think if this does not work you would have to take the servo out completely. Unless some can tell us how to get at the bottom bolt.

You also need to look carefully at the bulkhead as they do split with age. Alun Nicholas has had some plates made up which can be fitted to stiffen the area and so overcome the problem. I have had to do this on a couple of cars.

Yes, this one looks like it already has a plate fitted!

I'll try shortening a socket so that it can fit - I hate taking too much time on what should be a simple job when I have a long list of to'dos for the weekend :(

PS - gone through the manual - doesn't seem to be a big job to move the servo a bit. Of course, time will tell....

You can't move the servo 'a bit' without undoing all four nuts and the clevis pin. be careful not to damage the pipes.

When I got my Sprint way back in the 90's it had the performance of a diesel Peugeot, I know because one of these cars passed me easily when I was flat out!!!! But the cause of my Sprints non performance was the fact that the bulkhead had cracked around the throttle pedal and the car was on a quarter when foot to the floor, clearly wrong for me. I bolstered that area up.
track action maniac.

The lunatic is out................heres Jonny!
