Recommendations for a Recommissioning Job

#1 Post by Mick1800 »

I've recently acquired a TR7 - okay not a Dolly but near enough as its an early 4 speed coupe.
The car has been off the road for a number of years.
There is no rust (hard to believe I know) but it needs a thorough mechanical recommissioning.
I've got the engine running but it wants doing properly, timing, carbs setting up and electronic ignition fitting, having done it once I'm not fitting points to this thing ever again.
Brakes are completely shot, clutch needs freeing off, suspension needs all new joints and bushes replacing and theres a few electrical gremlins to cure.

Anyone know a decent garage/bloke that could get it running right and mot'd without charging £80 an hour and 'finding' a 100 other jobs that need doing?
I just want to run the car for the summer, make sure all is well and see if I can live with 4 speed then get it painted over next winter.
I know there are a couple of TR7 specialists out there but my experience of one model specialists has not been good.
Based in Cambridgeshire but I could transport the car within a reasonable distance.
Thanks

You heard of Robsport just off the A10 at Shepreth? Only half an hour from Huntingdon but I don't know which bit of Cambs you're in, and they may be a bit as you describe when it comes to the financials but wouldn't hurt to ask them.

I'd say that's a bargain. I was going to post you won't get a decent job for less than £45 per hour plus vat!

Yes I did contact them thanks, as you say they are not too far away. Maybe I was unlucky and spoke to the wrong person but they didn't seem very interested.

Just wanted to say that Steve - Carledo - did a great job on my car and for a very fair price. She is now back on the road for the first time in 26 years. Thanks.
