Duff ignition leads and noise on gearbox

#1 Post by cleverusername »

Trying to tune the carbs on the Sprint engine and it starts running like a dog. Spent the whole evening trying to fix it, worried that the rebuilt engine was broken, till I checked the spark. Not one, but two duff leads and a duff dizzy cap. All brand new from ebay. What a load of badly made rubbish.

Other new issue is the untested gear box, fixed the clutch and now have a whiring noise that increases in volume from 1st to 4th. No noise in neutral. This is an overdrive box and I am wondering if the overdrive is duff, as it seems to be coming from that area.

Buy the club leads. I have the same material on my 1850, good stuff.

You're right, not something be cheap on. Anyway I have it running properly now, idle around 850 and the carbs are balance according to the flow meter. So all is well in my world.

The noise in the gearbox/overdrive just seems to be the propshaft attachment at back spinning, screwdriver on the box/overdrive reveals it is surprisingly noise free. No whines, no crunches. No doubt something else will go wrong as I rebuild it. Still need to put the prop on, a bit of welding and fix the brake lines.
