Vermillion paint code?
Did it ever have a number, or was it always 'CML'?
Re: Vermillion paint code?
it would only be letters in the code originally. 118 was also used by another supplier and also CAE but wouldn't use CAE on a Dolomite as it likely won't match.
PPG used code 60932 but is much more modern and possibly darker

Re: Vermillion paint code?
Hi Alun, Yup, I agree with Justin. Certainly from when I owned DHO in Vermillion I remember that the paint code for that was CML. That was a 1980 car.
Now curiously it depends which Leyland publication you read, and for which year, as to colour spec;
The early, 1973 parts book gives only 2 "red shades".
32 Signal red.
72 Pimento.
The 1976 parts book shows the Red Shades have now expanded to 5 shades.
72 Pimento
82 Carmine
CAA Carmine
CAD Flamenco
CAE Vermillion
The 1977 Workshop manuals shows 9 shades of Red.
12 Matador
22 Cherry
32 Signal
42 Burgundy
52 Scarlet
62 Inca Red
72 Pimento
82 Carmine
92 Magenta.
( No Vermillion)
And just to complicate things the MGB colour listing shows.
Flamenco as 133
Vermillion 118
So … Vermillion could be CML; CAE ; or 118.
Alphanumeric codes seemed to be from 1976(ish).
Except the 1977 books still list numeric codes.
Tony.

Re: Vermillion paint code?
Thanks Marty, I’d found that list which is partly why I asked the original question, and my parts books have similar lists to your’s Tony.
I asked because I don’t recall having seen letter codes used on early style VIN plates, only the later type? I have one of Jon Tilson’s cars here that I’m shortly going to MoT and it is missing its VIN pate, so I’m stamping one up from a blank. The car is a late old style VIN on a ‘V’ plate and I’m convinced the colour is vermillion. Whilst other marques/models used 118, a Triumph red shade should end in a ‘2’, so I’m currently of the opinion ‘CML’ is the correct designation.
Anyone else have an early style VIN with a letter based paint code?

Re: Vermillion paint code?
My early 78 built Vermillion car (VA 26140) has CML as the colour code.
