LED Dash board lights

[new to this]

Hi has any one fitted LED bulbs to the dash board lights,the main ones I'm on about is the Speedo and rev counter,I know all the bulbs are E10

Hi Dave, a pal has just fitted them to his GT6 and his Stag and they are great. I would fit them in my own cars but they are rarely used in the dark. So untill the dash has to come out.........

thanks,i bought some of ebay they work for all the small gauges,but the speedo and rev counter have the green filter in them so these bulbs i bought are to long,didnt want to have to remove the filter

eBay is an absolute minefield and the quality and longevity of LEDs are hit-and-miss (with the exception of a few sellers that I absolutely trust). Amazon is a better bet and with Amazon Prime, delivery is quick and free. I've just fitted LEDs to the number plate lights on the Citroen and I'm considering fitting LEDs to the BMW. In general, you will get what you pay for so avoid the cheapest LEDs. They're a false economy. With "our" cars it is best to get coloured bulbs for non-white lights or warm white bulbs. The cool white LEDs look pale through coloured light lenses.

In my experience the more expensive leds are just cheap leds with a higher pricetag. Those coloured dash bulb leds are all from China.

Just one quick silly question, what's wrong with a proper bulb? They cost pennies, always fit and can often last the life of the car. I often scavenge dash bulbs from breaker cars that are in appalling condition and the bulbs still work!

It's just one more case where so called progress is actually a retrograde step and the new bit is more expensive and less reliable than the thing it replaces (prime example, the dual mass flywheel) Don't even get me started on LED headlights!

Couldn't agree more. I have heard people saying how bright etc the LEDs are, but who wants bright illumination on a gauge? Do these people drive at night??

I guess incandescent bulbs will disappear, but no need for LEDs to be "blue" or too bright. Be nice if they lasted as well as advertised too.
