Where's this bit go?

I know it's a front mudshield, but I can't see a space this shape anywhere.
Also, any ideas where I can get the other side one or better still full wheelarch inserts. I don't mine sawing down to size.

It is a mud shield Graham and that one is the nearside one, it fits across the inner wing reinforcer held on with two plastic pins. It stops mud and crap forming on top of the ledge.

Pretend I don't know anything and you won't be far off.

OK, look up inside the front wheel arch, aft of the suspension leg. Right at the top, you will see a triangular section starting about 4" wide at the bulkhead and tapering down to nothing around the top suspension mount. This is the strut/iner wing reinforcer. You may not be able to see, but if you feel up the vertical face of this panel you will find 2 holes that the clips go into to hold the plastic guard on. If you feel right up to the top of the vertical face, you will feel a gapwhere the reinforcer returns to the flitch. it's probably too small to actually get you finger between the reinforcer and the underside of the wing, but dirt and road muck can gather there and rot the reinforcer out, like this :-

My MK1 Escort had a shelf like that on the inner wings - not for strength, just designed obsolescence! They even had a dish shape to ensure water stayed put  I ground those suckers of when I replaced the wings... Don’t grind off those on the Dolly though, they really are structural...

Ah, the pictures from Rimmers suggested it's orientation was a bit different. I've been looking at totally the wrong end of the wheel arch and the wrong way round.

Oh there! Though if I said I see where it fits now, it would be a very loose use of the word "fits" indeed.

Are the pins like the front mud shield ones?

Pins are ZKC 1275. They must be used somewhere else as well, as the parts book says there are 10 (to do both sides)

But not on the front shield behind the headlight as those clips are a different part number, ZKC 511 (x6)

Fit is indeed a misnomer. one or two of us are looking for a more complete (in every sense) solution by adapting a modern style full arch protector to suit the Dolomite. Saab 9-3 seems to be favourite so far.

I am almost certain that on my 1977 and later dolomites that the pins that hold the front shield and this mud shield are the same.

Part numbers were taken from my Sept 75 Sprint parts list, my first thought was that they are all the same clip too, but I wasn't sure so I looked it up!

I may have a SH set of the top mud shields and pins on the way, possibly.

Looks like they need a lot of cutting, but an interesting idea. Especially, interesting wrt the front light area, which was all rotted out before.

There looks to be a delay ahead while it goes back to raining, so I might think about that.
