Thickness of new linings - Sprint brake shoes

#1 Post by gmsclassics »

I've been trying to fit a set of re-lined rear brake shoes I acquired at some time in the past and the brake drum just will not fit over them. The linings on these do look thicker than I remember. They are about 0.245" / 6.25mm.

Does anyone know what the factory spec for lining thickness should be or alternatively what thickness is normally supplied on replacement shoes? They aren't available in NZ so I may have to get my old ones relined or these ones ground down. Normal supplier ex UK is out of stock until Sep and total cost incl freight is over UKP 73, so relining makes sense!

Just measured some NOS Unipart ones and the linings are 0.175" or 4.5 mm thick

The ones supplied by one of the UK suppliers are Turkish made and aren't particularly high quality.
