does any one know where I can obtain any bri nylon material for refurbishing my seats.
by the wat my first day as a member on this forum don't have a clue what iam doing

Unfortunately the OE material has been unobtainable for many years; the best source is other seats..

Someone did a lot of research into other material and found a corduroy pattern that was similar, but I've no idea who that was.

Another club member (James) is looking into sourcing a fabric that was as close a match as could be got, not sure how far down that route he is. I've looked myself and there is polyester cord material out there, such as this from Yorkshire Fabric Shop, but I'm only looking on screen and that might be too chunky, the pencil thin version might be better. No idea what the seat material looked like brand spanking new, so hard to judge against the 45 year old 'sun kissed' stuff in my car!

That fabric company isn’t too far from me and I have a decent seat here I could take over to match up?
Remembering it’s only my opinion if I think it either is close or not.
I would then need to find a trimmer in my area too.
Like everyone else I have a very thin and faded rear seat so I would use that as the trial.
I do have lots of other pressing stuff to do and the seats are a lot further down my priorities list.

Not sure about you Trevor, but I'd be happy with something that was at least in the style of the originals rather than having to be an exact match, as I doubt there is enough buying power even with all the Triumph models it was used in to warrant someone weaving it again.

One of the largest trim companies (Newton Commercial?) has stocks of the proper stuff. But my information is they will not sell it, other than if they supply and fit it to your seats! And I don't like being held to ransom in this fashion!

My mate Cliff the trimmer reckons he has a line on some material that is very close to the original, must give him a bell and see how he' s getting on, he's also developing front seat foam cushions for Dolomites (will only be the wider Sprint/HL seats to start with)

Cliff the trimmer (whom you may have seen in several episodes of Car SOS on the telly) is an old mate of mine, he used to be the top guy at Aldridge trimming in Wolverhampton but now has his own business. IMO he's one of the best in the UK. He's also a confirmed Triumph man, with a MkII GT6 and 2 Spitfires in his personal fleet.

I thought everyone knew that!

I THINK it's Newton who have stock, but i've been known to be mistaken before!

I'm planning on using some of my newly found 'free time' to refurbish the front seats.

The original plan was just to replace the torn diaphragm on the driver's seat, fix any split piping and generally give them a clean but looking at the wear on the drivers seat I think I might need to do more to get them working and looking good.

I've managed to get my hands on a spare set of front seats that are better than my originals but the driver's one also has the diaphragm missing...

Getting a diaphragm on whilst the seat is fully built isn't easy (understatement ! ) so I was thinking of what else I could do to make it easier, for example removing the cushion cover to gain access from above. Then I though maybe I'd remove the old cover and fit the cover from the 'new' seat.

As both my passenger seats are better than both my drivers seats I was wondering, rather than swapping the covers is there any way of converting a passenger seat into a drivers seat? Looking at the parts list diagrams it looks as if both the cushion- and the squab- frames are handed so I guessing that it's not likely to work.

Does anybody have useful experience of rebuilding front seats and can point me in the right direction please?
