Does anyone recognise this indicator stalk please …

…. it is very similar to the Dolomite version with the following differences.
1. The Horn switch end is plain shiny plastic with no markings on it for horn / lights etc.
2. The connector end is a block connector with Lucas 1/4in spade terminals. The blue wire comes out on this connector but could easily be modified to bring the blue wire out on a 1/4in blade connector to make it Dolomite compatible. It suggests the lighting switch is not on the column.
3. The steering column bracket is much narrower than the Dolomite one.
4. The cable length is rather shorter than the Dolomite one, so probably a much shorter steering column.
With the current price / supply problem of Dolomite column switches it would be an easy mod;

The basic moulding numbers are the same as the Dolomite ones so I would guess a 70's U.K. made car possibly B.L. / Lotus / TVR / Morgan etc; etc;

Isn't this the generic BMC indicator/dip switch found on Austin, Morris, Mini, MG, etc, etc? Main light switch would have been on the dashboard.

Looks very similar to the one I had in my 1972 Austin 1100
Current Heaps: 1968 Austin 1100, 1974 Dolomite Sprint, 1974 MGB GT, 1985 BMW E28 520i, 2000 Porsche Boxster, 2002 Clio 172 and a boring 2010 Audi A4 that keeps the wife happy!

At a guess Tony i would say early ford, poss mk1 Escort or mk2 cortina or Corsair? Not Bmc as most had the indicator green light on the end. Could be Lotus Elan as they used Ford bits.

Phase 2 Mk1 Cortina, my 65 Tina estate had a switch just like that!

Earliest cars had a fairing sticking out of the column with master light and indicator switch on it and a floor mounted dipswitch. This switch superceded that rather complex arrangement around 1964. This is why there is no labelling on the switch as manufacturers were not obliged to do this till sometime around 1970/71.

Hello All, Thanks very much for all the hints on the source. I followed them up and I found a 13H 7779 available at both Moss and Rimmers being listed as " Mini with Horn and Dip 69 -76 Mini Mk III . ( £50:40 or £36:00 )
Functionally it is the same as the Dolomite one but needs the connector cutting off and a Dolomite one attatching on longer leads. Oooh yes, and the blue wire needs modifying.
It would be fine for my daily driver but the logo being missing would make it of limited use for a Restoration project.

Can an original stalk end be fitted to it? On that same stalk on my 1100, you could unscrew the metal fitting at the end and it would come apart. Not sure how you can successfully disassemble a Dolomite stalk end though.

Yes, Good idea. I tried to dismantle the hooter end of the Mini stalk with no luck. The plastic split lines are excellent and I couldn't get a thin blade in either. I suspect the end bit is a click-fit and is then ultrasonically welded or similar. :(
I have had the horn contacts off for cleaning some years back but I didn't investigate the switch any furthur.

Just as a finale to this … Yes it is possible to make the Mini Mk3 indicator stalk Dolomite compatible !
Here's one I did earlier.
It does assume the Dolomite horn push bit of the stalk is still working and the connector is still O.K.
The end of the stalk has a raised circular section. As SiC says this simply unscrews to reveal the horn contacts ! The plastic split lines have been very well made. They are practically invisible.
Looking at the other end of the stalk the pivot pin can have a small drill used to remove the end of peened over bit used to retain it, and then the pin can be knocked out using a small pin punch. Cut the purple/ black wire and the braided wire close to the end of the Mini stalk and solder on the Dolomite horn stalk. Insulate the soldered joints with heatshrink and knock the pivot pin back.
Locate the thick blue wire running down to the block connector and cut this to the same length as the Dolomite one. About 7inches. Fit a male 1/4in blade connector to the end. This goes to the master light switch.
At the other end cut the block connector off and cut the Dolomite connector off leaving about 6 inches of original Dolomite cabling as the Mini one is too short as is.
Crimp the Dolomite cable end to the Mini stalk cable following the one to one colour coding.
Check the connections with an ohm meter as follows.
Horn :- Black to Purple / black.
Ind; Left :- Light green / brown to Green /red.
Ind; Right :-Light green / brown to Green white.
Headlight : Dipped :- Thick Blue to Blue/ red
Mainbeam :- Thick Blue to Blue / white
Flash :- Purple to Blue / white.
Swap the Mini Mk III fixing bracket for the Dolomite one.
