Securing nut camshaft spocket

#1 Post by cleverusername »

Decided to change head gasket, going with Payen one. Reading the Heynes and workshop manuals, it seems to suggests I made an error. I assumed that the central nut on the securing bracket was a permanent fixing. The manuals seem to suggest it is a temporary mount for when you remove the head.

When I refit, should I leave that central nut off?

yes. leave nut off. I also make sure the support bracket is pulled forwards to ensure it is clear of the threaded spigot in the centre of the cam sprocket. it is only used to support the sprocket and keep tension on the timing chain if you want to remove the camshaft to reshim valve clearances or remove the head. saves the trouble of having to remove the front cover to sort the timing chain out.
