Starting the sprint

#1 Post by ricky1850 »

Started the sprint on Monday, bodywork Reston first job,

Drivers side is the worst so I will start with that, who ever repaired the sill and rear arch before made a hash of it and basically the doors don’t fit, they over hang the sill. The rear door I sourced was a good used one with no repairs just waxoiled, completey covered in black goo on the inside. So hangs the door and basically spends the next 2 days trying to get it to fit. I get near with the gaps to front door and top of rear quarter, body lines all good but almost no gap coming down towards botom of wheel arch, to now add to that the bolts have threaded themselves and no longer hold the top hinge! So door gaps are back to square one and I’ll have to start again :(

I think who ever has repaired the lower section has not tried the door before welding so everything Is well out in that area. I think my only option is dress the wheel arch out to make a gap and then get the new outer sill cover fitting correctly. Oh and retap threads in plate for hinges

Hi Ricky.

I feel your pain here. It is no easy task hanging doors and it seems an art to me. I have however read that not all doors are the same dimensions.. Bizarre as it sounds you may find another door fits much better.
