Hi everyone I just wanted to say hello.
I have been reading the information on here and enjoying your stories and advice.
Dollys have been a part of my life since I was probably 3 until 15?
Our family friend had a 1500 in a maroon colour then a Russett Brown 1500 HL on T or V plate I think in the 1970/80s.
I always remember how comfy and quiet they were inside although he used to have Radio 3 on playing classical music! It did a nice phaaaarting noise in a similar way Moggys do when it drove off! That tail pipe swinging so low to the road looking like it's about to fall off!
I have a picture from the 70's of him posing proudly in front of his first Dolly, he was an engineer and of course used to service it himself.
I cant find a picture of the brown one but I am sure it will turn up?
This Dolly was my mates Vermillion Red, which looked fantastic but in his words was a total pile of ****! I remember him with a aerosol can touching up the wings, doors after doing bodge filling! It's 1984, that's me on the left with my first Beetle (yes I am a lifelong air cooled freak - still am). I think that Dolly is probably doing a great job as a recycled washing machine these days!
I don't know why I have been thinking about these cars recently but I always wanted one.
Hopefully I will start to look seriously at buying one after I have sold my Rover P5, which has been sitting there since lockdown feeling sorry for itself. It was my every day car and now I can't face it not moving over winter so it has to go.
From this forum it seems, mechanically Dollys they are super simple to work on but bodily terrible like most 1970's cars! I had a 1974 Datsun 100a a while back and although amazingly good condition with just 1 previous owner, the subframe was shocking!
It's nice to see so many of you keeping them alive, hopefully I will do so too.

Welcome to the madhouse! Lovely P5, always had a soft spot for these, having briefly owned a 65 P5 coupe in the 70s. A very under rated car, overshadowed by it's V8 successor.

Coincidentally mine is a '65 MK2 saloon, incredibly over and well engineered cars. I always wanted one but it has to go and make way for a Dolly now.
I can't believe the price difference between Sprints and the rest of the pack, are they made of gold?

Blimey are you really in the Outer Hebrides? How is the Dolly surviving all that salt air?
It spent 37 of its 40 years in Enfield, London. It came to Lewis in the Outer Hebrides in Oct 2017.
It enjoys pride of place in my garage, which is heated - so no dampness or salt air.
