Engine out or replace main crank bearings in situ 1500 RWD

#1 Post by storeyn »

Evening all

My intention has always been to remove the engine from my 1500 and complete a refurb mainly due to rumbling main bearings on start up.

The rest of the engine is good quiet, runs well burns very little oil.

I have seen on the forum that main crank bearings can be changed with the engine in the car.

My question is...

Is it worth doing it this way with the engine in the car or is it false economy and I may end up taking it out in the long run...

Any thoughts would me much appreciated

If you go back to Sat Oct 17th 2020 you will see I asked "Should I attempt to change my thrust washers and bearing with the engine in the car".

If your crank journals are scored and you need a regrind, then the engine is going to have to come out anyway.
