oil Leak

#1 Post by new to this »

Ive just found ive got an oil leak,Its doesnt look like its coming from the back of the gear box, every thing is to wet to be sure, ive a feeling its the rear crankshaft seal has gone, whats it like to remove just the gear box, is there enough room to take the gearbox out from inside the car ?

I've taken just the gearbox out many times. You will need to lower the two rear subframe mounts. I usually remove it from under the car but there may be enough room to manoeuvre it through the tunnel opening after lowering it to the floor. Probably easier with the front seats removed. I've never done it this way so it may not be possible.
Sprintless for the first time in 35+ years. :boggle2: ... Still Sprintless.

Engines, Gearboxes, Overdrives etc. rebuilt. PM me.

Overdrive or non-overdrive? I have the former and I can't see anyway you could take it out from inside the car, it is too long.

To be honest if I was doing it, I would unbolt the subframe, lift the body off and roll the whole lot out but I do have access to an engine hoist.

Hi Dave

I tried to get the box out through the car and found it to be too tight. The only way I can see it coming out that way is if you cut the tunnel back to make a bigger opening - and you don’t want to do that!

I too dropped the rear subframe mounts and took it out underneath. Carefully does it mate - it’s heavy!

Good luck.
