Hi everyone,
trying to get my Dolomite going over here in Australia. The transmission is leaking pretty badly, I am fairly sure its just the pan gasket so I am trying to find a new one. Not many triumph spare parts places here in Aus but from what I have been told they are a common box so should be able to find one here. What i am wanting to know is the model of the transmission, Borg Warner 65 or 35 or something different . Not sure what to look for.
Thanks, hope someone can help.
Steve

Re: 1850 Auto box
I had the same problem with the BW65 in my Dolomite. The standard gasket is made of cork, but as the same gearbox is used in 1970/80s Rovers, some specialists have had it remade in rubber. I tried both, I'd say the rubber one was better, but the visible edges of it started to crack pretty quickly after fitting - which I wondered might cause further leaks. I didn't get chance to find out, as not long later, the gearbox went duff and I replaced it with a reconditioned unit.
Either version of the gasket is freely available from specialist parts suppliers here in UK, so if you struggle to find in Australia, you can get one sent out readily. From memory, the torque setting of the bolts is low at 7 or 8 lbs feet, there's a tendency to over tighten which aggravates the fluid leak problem.
I seem to remember that opinion varies as to whether or not sealant should be applied to the gasket. I guess it's one for personal preference. Good luck with it, I hope you get sorted.
